Health and Wellbeing

Many people are becoming beekeepers as part of their health and wellbeing plan.

My health and wellbeing program uses a gentle approach that allows your hive to supplement your existing programs and activities while caring for your bees. This takes into consideration the smells, vibrations, feelings, sounds and tastes.

While meeting the rules of safe beekeeping and completing biosecurity checks, we will move at a peaceful pace and take time to enjoy the experience with as little disruption to the bees as possible.

The aim of my health and wellbeing program is to become one with the hive and respect the needs of the hive, rather than work toward high honey yields.

As part of the session I may support specific skill development by providing experiences that relate to:
  • Social and communication skills such as talking about the experience, discussing bee behaviour and their community, chatting about a garden and pollinators we find, providing verbal or written instructions to follow.
  • Physical skills such as rolling candles, squishing wax to strengthen fine motor skills, holding frames, rotating frames to ensure wax stays vertical, building foundationless frames using simple tools, crushing comb to extract honey, safe lifting.
  • Emotional and spiritual needs such as listening to the hive hum, meditating near the hive, bonding with bees (holding hands full of bees and feeling their vibrations), self-regulation, anxiety reduction.
  • Cognitive skills - learning about the parts of the hive, finding eggs and larvae, watching bees make their own comb (festooning), honey tasting, making short term and long term decisions.

Check out my new beekeeper options if you don't have a hive already.

$120 per 1.5-2 hour session at your hive.
* Additional costs may apply depending on materials and resources requested, and location.
