To prevent swarming and to keep the hive healthy, bee-carers need to check their hives every 7 - 10 days during active season. Over summer and autumn, bees may still swarm and varroa numbers still need to be monitored.
Swarms can get into nasty spaces, destroy native animal habitats and deplete hive numbers. Hives might swarm due to lack of space, disease or queen issues.
